Cultural notes- 雨戸 (Amado)Wooden rain shutters that slide over windows and verandas in traditional Japanese homes. They are opened during the day and closed at night for security and weather protection.
- 床の間 (Tokonoma)A recessed alcove in a traditional Japanese room, used to display calligraphy, flower arrangements, or art objects. It is a formal centerpiece of a room like the お座敷 (guest room).
- 巡査 (Junsa)A pre-war word for a police officer. The modern term is 警察官 (keisatsukan). Its use gives the story a nostalgic, early-20th-century atmosphere.
- 金張り (Kinbari)Means 'gold-plated' or 'covered in gold'. The joke here is that the burglar becomes convinced the entire house is literally made of gold, making Yukiko's trick even more absurd and funny.
